As an industry analyst over the last 25 years I have learned that the wireless and telecom industry completely changes every few years. Let me give you an example. Long distance. Ten years ago AT&T, MCI and Sprint were interrupting our dinner with telemarketing sales calls. Remember those? Today there is no more stand along long distance industry. A few years ago Verizon acquired MCI and SBC acquired AT&T and took their name. Poof the industry changed.

It's odd that people automatically centre directly onto Android phones or Apple when Sony Ericsson and Nokia are still quite happily making their own Mobile Operating Systems. There is a simple explanation for this; Android and Apple are the biggest and the best. While the exact definition of a tablet PC remains up in the air, a simple definition runs along the lines of this: a personal computer between the sizes of a PDA and laptop and oftentimes sporting touch-screen capabilities, with or without a stylist, and/or a keyboard.

On the other hand, Apple iOS is very simple to use and due to this reason people of all ages can easily use the devices like the iPhone and iPad. But there are some weak points of this operating system as well. The first one is software inflexibility. iOS allows a very little tweaking and customization. And the operating system functions outstandingly within the protected space set by Apple. You cannot do anything that is not set within the limitations of Apple.

Applications must be submitted to Apple for review and Apple ultimately decides what may or may not be sold in the Apple App Store. In contrast, Android Market is an open system. Developers can directly publish their applications to the market without having them filtered through a central authority. This means that the Android Market is likely to have a greater variety of applications and content but end-users have to accept that the applications are not being screened. There is a definite trade off. The Android Market does support a community rating and comments section.

Primarily, I see Android becoming a serious threat to Microsoft Windows Mobile. In particular, HTC has been using Windows Mobile in a variety of their products. Likewise, HTC has architected their own software, primarily their Touch Flo 3D, to sit on top of the Windows OS. Which seemingly devalues the whole user experience. The Touch Flo 3D software and Windows Mobile OS do not provide a cohesive user experience. I should mention that the Touch Flo 3D look-and-feel is particularly wonderful and offers a comparative experience when compared to Apple.

iPad has amazing graphics, clear videos, touch screen sensitivity, 3G connectivity, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, 10 hours battery life, games and other applications that can be installed in this unit. An Android Tablet, on the other hand, has an open source for Operating System. This means users can still improve on the applications and coding. There are more games and applications developed with Android Tablet. It has GPS, 3G and allows users to read e-books. It also has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth similar to iPad. Android Tablet has a camera and flash support while iPad does not have this feature.
